Making Biodiesel at Home – Part 1
Hello! On behalf of the parleys Diesel Performance and Utah Biodiesel Supply show you now how to make a large batch of biodiesel. We'll show you how to collect, oil, processer talk a bit 'about how our oil filter, like the one we transfer oil into a biodiesel process like us, then, as we have fuel-use. We will begin to different things along the way, then let's talk.
First, we have a business that we go out andcollect the oil in 55 gallon drums. We use these drums behind restaurants that have contracted with us, and bring these oil drums, and then bring them back to this shop on the back of a truck. We have a lift-back door of the truck, so it is really easy to do in and out of swap. A lot of people try to collect by means of pumping oil, you go and they will actually pump the oil, and we tried for a little while, but a lift-gate WAS just a lot easier. There are approximately 2500-3500Dollars, but are best in the world. If you have that you do not know your uncle, aunts, friends and all the others, soon you will be transporting pianos along the road. I am simply a wonderful piece of equipment for a truck. But what we have when we gather to take possession of oil, we will repeat here a barrel, it is around here, then get a filter. And it looks nice and kind of dirty. This is a four hundred micron filter Baron. Wein flight, and we filter. Once our oil is filtered, is a plant show that I'm going to drag in an instant, and make biodiesel.
Have a little 'of what we use here. Remember, the smallest in our environment, we talked about using methanol, lye and oil. Well, this is our methanol. Methanol is a tank of 325 liters. Most of you do not need something this big, but we do get a lot of fuel that has made us. Then wethrough them and bring them back to our area. You can do it fairly cheap if you get that way. This is a 55 gallon drum. These are usually purchased as methanol. This is a common way. The easiest way to carry home, can be put on the back of a pickup. And then, when you come home you can get in the back of the transport processor biodiesel.
These are our barrels of glycerin, and as we have done our fuel, if you remember me we had our by-Glycerol. Then just take the car and glycerol that we've come here and pour glycerin in these barrels. Glycerin is a crude glycerol, soap containing some catalyst, and some methanol. We cap these barrels, we use our lift gate, throw them on the back of the machine, and we carry a water treatment plant, if they take away our hands. They add that they use their methane digester where the methane gas to run their generators product.We realized in this way to get rid of. There is no charge to not pay for taking our hands, but it is a good way to get rid of it. Once glycerol from which we are here then you can take the fuel out and do it with biodiesel. After you filter our oil in a drum as we've got a sump pump. And all this is a good old sump pump cheap to Home Depot, Lowe's, what you have. We have a large installationThen pipe and a pipe, and we use it to fill the machine oil. We address directly, it works beautifully, we implement this on-cart drum, so that they our equipment and we can make Biodiesel. We have just shown some methanol. This is a drum of methanol in the right place. This is just a pump that we have already installed so we could quickly pump methanol in our car. We will now make a game, so you can see how it works as well. Methanol, oil, and then whenhe pans on my side here, which is much, much catalyst. This particular catalyst contains potassium hydroxide, and we use to produce biodiesel. Remember, it takes methanol and catalyst to oil. Behind me is on the right is the fuel. This biodiesel is that we have in our cars. We show you how this is done, and this fuel is ready for use in diesel pickups. Also remember that it is done for about a dollar a gallon, and we can saveus a lot of money aside, it would throw away the normal people. As soon as we have our oil in our warehouse we brought the filters. For biodiesel is a good idea to filter so you get all your crustys crunchys and out. This is only a 55-gallon drum sieve. This is a 400 microns. And 'the only one I use. It seems a bit gross but we probably uky Septemberabout 3,500 gallons of fuel from the filter. I'm really looking and durable. There is only a filter based on pole. You can get on most websites. Take a look at my website, I wear them as well. We set the filter on, we will take our oil and simply bad through them. Now, the oil from restaurants is really big, and angry. As you can see there are some crustys and order here, and like as not you see through this really quickly, you getus a spatula with rounded corners, and we're only scratching back and forth to let go crustys. So this oil is only through the filter. Can you feel the filtering there? As soon as it is filtered, we'll take in our laboratory or in our shop and make biodiesel. So let this kind of staying here for a little 'how do we go, will. One thing I want to show, but a lot of time you actually get oil thicky shit, and you must get rid of crustys. So we cut aboy car is open, the, what I usually get into oil, and we simply zero in there. So again I just up and down very slowly. You can see some of these pieces, I get it. It 'usually food and things grilled, fried potatoes, all things that only they put the oil on the restaurant, you really do not want, Fuel a. Especially in your truck, right? I'll just note that the filter, and our next step will showhow to load our car full of oil. Then we do a lot. So see you in a second.
Our next step is that we have the oil filter so now is the time to make biodiesel. Remember, the first time to make biodiesel, a mixture is heated, so I happen to have sitting next to me a heck of a heated mixture. This is a stainless steel device with a giant mixer in it, and a large oven on the bottom. It allows me to make biodiesel quickly and in a fairly automatedFashion. Now to make biodiesel, you do not need anything like that, but we do so much that we like. Let me tell you what we do. Have you seen the fuel sits in front a minute behind me. Only last year we used 6,800 gallons of fuel pickup that we have a variety of diesel. Everything from a 2007 F350 Duramax 1993 at the great International Harvester DT466 stapid with an engine and run biodiesel in all of these. We have a Ford, Chevy, Dodge andso that we have been able to run all gammit.
We know what to do. There are mixed here in Utah, we're out cold in winter, we begin to have. We make our biodiesel from rapeseed oil, canola oil is wonderful cold flow properties of diesel is so that when it drops to 50 degrees, we start casting. Before going around is very beautiful.
